Google will launch a prototype satellite carrying its custom Tensor Processing Units into low Earth orbit on Oct. 1. The test, part of Project Suncatcher, will see whether AI chips can survive space radiation and operate reliably. SpaceX's Falcon 9 will carry the payload.

The Dow fell 289 points (0.6%) in midday trading, led by a 5.4% decline in McDonald's and a 3.0% drop in Alphabet Class A. The two stocks combined for roughly 143 points of the index loss. Merck, Amazon, and Home Depot also contributed to the broad sell-off.
