Job openings fell 256,000 to 7.08 million in August, the lowest since March. Real estate and rental openings plunged 62,000 to 47,000, the lowest since September 2015. Manufacturing and construction also saw steep declines. The gap between vacancies and unemployed workers narrowed to just 48,000 from 419,000 in July.
