Apple's first touch-screen MacBook Pro: hands-on review questions the audience

Apple's new MacBook Pro with a touch screen starts at $2,899. A WSJ hands-on review finds touch useful for visual tasks like maps and video editing, but less so for general work. The display cannot lie flat, and the MacBook Pro is not compatible with Apple Pencil. The reviewer sees the touch screen as a bonus; the main upgrade is the OLED display, Dynamic Island, and a lighter, thinner chassis. Apple also refreshed the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, the iMac line, and a new iPad Mini with OLED starting at $699. IDC data shows touch notebooks shipped 33.4 million units in 2025, up 22% year over year, but only 11% of consumers buy touch laptops and rarely pay extra.
