Apple acquired Ascend.io, a maker of automated data-management software, in June, according to a recent European Commission disclosure. The deal included patent rights, a non-exclusive IP license, and employment offers to certain staff. Financial terms were not disclosed. Ascend.io's website says it is winding down. Apple did not comment.
